If you sell on Walmart Marketplace, you've seen the badge: a small "Pro Seller" marker next to certain sellers' names. What Walmart doesn't shout about is that Pro Seller is the top rung of a three-tier ladder — Rising, Advanced, Pro Seller — with ten separate criteria, evaluated twice a month, and benefits that go well beyond the badge itself (including a 10% discount on referral fees for qualifying offers).
This guide lays out the exact official criteria for each tier, how "Pro Seller" differs from a "Pro Listing" (they're not the same thing, and confusing them costs sellers money), what the badge actually gets you, and how to check where you stand.
The shape of the program
Pro Seller status isn't applied for — it's granted automatically when a seller meets all ten criteria at a status refresh. Refreshes happen on the 5th and 20th of every month, and the underlying metrics are calculated daily. There are three tiers:
- Rising Seller — the entry tier
- Advanced Seller — the middle tier
- Pro Seller — the top tier, and the only one with a badge
Miss the criteria at two consecutive refreshes and the status (and its benefits) goes away — Walmart also reserves the right to downgrade or claw back benefits if they're earned improperly, so treat the badge as rented, not owned.
All ten criteria, tier by tier
The full official ladder (thresholds rise with each tier):
- On-time delivery — ≥90% (Rising) / ≥92.5% (Advanced) / ≥95% (Pro), measured against the Expected Delivery Date over the last 90 days
- Cancellation rate — ≤2% / ≤2% / ≤1.5% (seller-canceled orders, last 90 days)
- Seller response rate — ≥90% / ≥95% / ≥95% (customer inquiries answered within 48 hours, last 30 days)
- Shipping speed score — ≥20% / ≥35% / ≥50% — the share of your published catalog offering free delivery in three days or less
- Content quality score — ≥65% / ≥70% / ≥75%
- Price competitiveness score — ≥65% / ≥70% / ≥75% (your prices vs. similar products, last 30 days)
- Completed orders — >10 / >50 / >100 in a rolling 90 days
- Time active on Walmart — ≥90 days for all three tiers
- Seller rating — only Pro Seller sets a bar: ≥4.0
- Policy compliance — full compliance required at every tier
Two of these deserve a spotlight because sellers misread them constantly:
The 65/70/75 ladder applies to two separate Listing Quality component scores — content quality and price competitiveness — not to the overall 0–100 Listing Quality score. Content quality is officially the average content score across your published catalog. (Our Listing Quality score guide breaks down how those components are built.)
Shipping speed is a catalog metric, not a delivery metric. It's the percentage of your live catalog offering free ThreeDay-or-faster shipping — you raise it by extending fast free shipping to more of your catalog, not by delivering faster.
Pro Seller ≠ Pro Listing (the expensive confusion)
A Pro Listing is not a status — it's a property of an individual offer. An offer earns Pro Listing treatment (and its fee discount) only when all three are true at once:
- The seller holds Advanced or Pro Seller status
- The offer's pricing is competitive
- The offer ships fast and free (for the top discount, in 2 days or less)
The payoff is real money: 5% off the referral fee on Pro Listings for Advanced sellers, 10% off for Pro Sellers. A Pro Seller whose offers don't meet the price and shipping conditions gets the badge but not the discount — which is why the program rewards operations, not just tenure.
What each tier actually gets you
Pro Seller: the badge next to your business name on eligible listings (Walmart is explicit that badge display is not guaranteed on every listing), the 10% Pro Listing referral-fee discount, a $50/month SEM advertising credit, Flash Deals access, Quarterly Rotating Rewards, Master Series webinars, Walmart Capital terms, a Post-Purchase Reviews credit, Ship with Walmart label discounts (up to 15% off 3-day, 35% off 2-day labels), and Faster Payouts.
Advanced: the 5% Pro Listing discount and most of the same program perks — but no badge, no SEM credit, no Flash Deals.
Rising: shipping-label discounts and a Faster Payout balance bump. Modest — it's a starting rung.
Walmart's own marketing cites Pro Sellers seeing, on average, more than 20% GMV lift and 1.7x conversion versus non-Pro sellers (Walmart first-party data, Feb–Jul 2025) — with the standard footnote that past results don't guarantee yours. Note what Walmart does not promise: an official search-ranking boost. The conversion effect, if it comes, comes from buyers trusting the badge and from your faster-shipping offers — not from a secret algorithmic lever.
Where to check your standing
Your status and progress live in Seller Center's Pro Seller dashboard (also surfaced under Growth → Pro Seller), and the Listing Quality side under Analytics → Growth Opportunities. The Pro Listings tab of the dashboard shows which of your offers currently qualify as Pro Listings and your 90-day savings from the fee discounts — the fastest way to see what the program is actually paying you.
Pro Seller vs. plain account health
Don't confuse the ladder with Walmart's Performance Standards — the account-health floor (cancellation ≤2%, on-time delivery ≥90%, valid tracking ≥99%, response rate ≥95%). Performance Standards are the "don't get in trouble" line; Pro Seller's bars are deliberately stricter. You can be a perfectly healthy seller in good standing and still be nowhere near Advanced — the gap between "compliant" and "Pro" is the shipping-speed catalog coverage and the two 75% quality scores.
Is it worth chasing?
Run the arithmetic for your catalog. The concrete, countable benefits are the referral-fee discount (5–10% of the fee, i.e. roughly 0.75–1.5 points of margin on qualifying sales), the label discounts, and the SEM credit at Pro tier. The costs of qualifying are real too: widening free fast shipping across half your catalog (Pro's ≥50% shipping-speed bar) is an operational commitment, and pushing content quality to 75%+ is a catalog-wide project.
Our take: if you're already near the thresholds, climb — the fee discount alone pays rent on the effort. If you're far away, fix in this order: response rate and cancellations first (pure process), then content quality (one-time catalog work — see our unpublished-listing troubleshooting guide if items aren't even live), then price competitiveness, and treat shipping-speed coverage as the last, deliberate investment.
Quick answers
How do I become a Walmart Pro Seller?
Meet all ten official criteria — including ≥95% on-time delivery, ≤1.5% cancellations, ≥95% response rate, ≥75% content quality and price competitiveness, >100 completed orders in 90 days, and a ≥4.0 seller rating — at a status refresh (the 5th or 20th of the month). Status is granted automatically; there's no application.
What is a Walmart Pro Listing?
An individual offer that qualifies for a referral-fee discount (5% Advanced / 10% Pro) because the seller holds the status and the offer has competitive pricing and fast, free shipping. It's per-offer, not per-seller.
Can I lose the Pro Seller badge?
Yes — fall below the criteria for two consecutive refresh cycles and the status and benefits are removed.
Does the badge improve my search ranking?
Walmart doesn't promise a ranking boost. The documented benefits are the badge display, fee discounts, credits and program access; Walmart's cited GMV/conversion lifts are its own marketing data with a no-guarantee footnote.
