Amazon has no listing quality score. Walmart has one. TikTok Shop has four different scoring systems running at once — a quality tier on each listing, a star rating and negative-review rate on each product, a performance score for your shop, and a health rating that decides whether you're allowed to keep selling. Sellers constantly confuse them, because each one punishes and rewards different behavior.
This guide untangles all four, with the official thresholds TikTok publishes for each: what the Listing Quality Tiers actually measure, how the Negative Review Rate is calculated, what the Shop Performance Score unlocks, and how the Account Health Rating — the enforcement score that replaced violation points in 2026 — can quietly end a shop.
Layer 1: The Listing Quality Tier (per listing: Poor / Fair / Good)
Every listing gets a quality tier based on how completely and honestly it's built. TikTok documents the criteria with unusual precision:
Title. A title drops to Poor if a word repeats four or more times, if it references variants or inventory ("Low stock", "3 colors available"), or if it's clickbait. A Good title runs 25–255 characters — long enough to describe the product properly, without stuffing.
Main image. Must be over 600×600 pixels, with no text, logos, watermarks, borders, promo stickers or renderings; a white background is recommended at tier level — and see the policy rules below, because for the main image TikTok's listing policy goes further and requires pure white.
Category completeness. The Good tier also requires the category-specific information TikTok publishes in its per-category matrix, plus fully filled attributes. This is where most listings stall at Fair: the basics are fine, the attribute fields are half-empty.
Separately — and this is the part sellers miss — the Product Listing Policy turns several quality rules into actual violations, not just tier deductions: descriptions must be at least 30 words; the main image must have a pure white background; images must be color, at least 600×600, up to 9 images plus one video (≤5MB); titles and images can't use ALL CAPS claims, "Best Seller"/"Trending" badges, or percentage-off promo text; no off-platform links or QR codes; and listing a product in the wrong category, or duplicating/repurposing listings, is a policy violation that feeds the enforcement score in Layer 4.
Layer 2: Product Rating and Negative Review Rate (per product)
Your product's star rating is the visible layer. The operational layer underneath it is the Negative Review Rate (NRR): the share of delivered orders whose review is 1 or 2 stars, calculated over orders delivered in the last 60 days — for individual products (Product NRR) and for your whole shop (Shop NRR).
Mechanics worth knowing, all official:
- Buyers can only review within 60 days of delivery, and reviews stay visible even after a full refund.
- You cannot delete a negative review — your options are to respond to it, or report it if it violates policy.
- Negative reviews are categorized as product, logistics, or service complaints — which matters, because they feed different parts of your shop score.
- TikTok publishes no official target NRR percentage; the instruction is simply to keep it low. Anyone quoting you an exact "safe" NRR number is inventing it.
Layer 3: Shop Performance Score (SPS) — the benefits score
The Shop Performance Score (0–5) looks back over 90 days and combines three dimensions: product satisfaction (Negative Review Rate + non-buyer-fault return rate), fulfillment (seller-fault cancellations + on-time delivery), and customer service (message dissatisfaction + after-sales handling time), weighted by category.
Two design details matter. First, if your product-satisfaction component falls below 1, the entire SPS drops to its lowest component — product quality is the floor of the whole score, not one input among equals. Second, TikTok states that a low SPS triggers no enforcement by itself — SPS gates opportunities instead:
- SPS ≥3.5 is required for Affiliate Marketing, campaign registration, Made-to-Order and Smart Promotion tools
- SPS ≥2.5 for collectibles "breaks"
- The Top Rated Seller badge needs SPS ≥4.0 plus a Positive Product-Rating Rate of at least 80% (and reputation points)
Your SPS only appears once you've accumulated enough delivered orders (around 30 in 90 days) — new shops simply don't have one yet.
Layer 4: Account Health Rating (AHR) — the enforcement score
The Account Health Rating (0–1,000) is the serious one. It runs on a rolling 180-day window, every seller starts at 200 points, and in July 2026 it fully replaced the old Violation Points system. Listing-policy violations, product-quality failures and review manipulation all deduct from it, and the milestones are cliffs, not slopes:
- 150 points — no new listings or campaigns for 7 days
- 100 points — restrictions extend to 14 days
- 50 points — 28 days
- 0 points — possible permanent deactivation
Recovery is deliberately slow and operational: you earn back +4 points per 200 completed orders (max +20 per week) and can earn points via policy quizzes (a milestone quiz can also shorten an active restriction). Every point expires after 180 days, so the rating is always a picture of your recent behavior — you can't bank a good quarter and coast.
What deducts from AHR in practice: prohibited claims and misleading before-and-after content, wrong-category listings, duplicate/repurposed listings, brand obfuscation, prices far outside category norms, non-compliant images, and — under the Product Quality Policy — products flagged by random sampling inspections, high seller-fault return rates, low ratings and buyer complaints. Review manipulation (incentivized reviews outside TikTok's official feature, review cards in packaging, selectively soliciting happy buyers, diverting unhappy ones) escalates from warnings to shop suspension.
Appeals: what actually works
Both product-quality and listing violations are appealed through Shop Health — and TikTok documents what a serious appeal contains: evidence plus correction. For product-quality cases that means Compliance Documentation (PDF test reports, certificates, CPC where applicable) and/or a Corrective Action Plan that names the root cause and the specific fixes you made. Generic promises ("we will do better") are documented to fail. Invalid reviews are reported, not deleted; review responses should be public and professional, because they're read by both buyers and, effectively, the platform.
The working routine
Weekly: check your Listing Quality Tiers and push Fair listings to Good (attributes first — it's the most common gap); check Product NRR for anything drifting up in the last 60 days and read the actual reviews before they compound. Monthly: check SPS against the 3.5 gate before you plan any campaign or affiliate push — discovering you're at 3.4 during campaign registration is the expensive way to learn the system. Always: keep AHR boring. It's the only one of the four scores that can end the business, and it recovers at 4 points per 200 orders — far slower than it falls.
Quick answers
What is a good TikTok Shop product rating?
There's no official "good" star threshold; what TikTok measures operationally is your Negative Review Rate (1–2 star reviews over the last 60 days of delivered orders). For the Top Rated Seller badge, the documented bars are SPS ≥4.0 and a Positive Product-Rating Rate ≥80%.
What's the difference between SPS and AHR?
SPS (0–5) is a benefits score — it gates campaigns, affiliate tools and badges, and a low SPS carries no enforcement. AHR (0–1,000) is the compliance score — violations deduct from it, and hitting its milestones restricts or deactivates the shop.
Why did my listing quality tier drop?
The documented triggers: a title under 25 characters or with a word repeated 4+ times, inventory/variant language or clickbait in the title, a main image under 600×600 or containing text/logos/stickers, or missing category-specific attributes.
Can I get a negative review removed?
You can't delete reviews. You can respond publicly, and report the review if it violates policy. Reviews remain visible even when the order was fully refunded.
